A Very Special Night Of Jazz

I must say first, a night to remember for all the fans of the Sole Bay Jazz gentlemen…

Leading last night Mike Leigh… (sorry Mike for putting on the blog you were playing all night when you were only supposed to be doing a few numbers)… but oh my goodness you have not lost your touch or the singing voice…

Ably assisted by Bill Skinner who plays from the heart…as you can see by the photos!

Trummy wow however many notes he can get in a number…

Backed by Alan (thanks for moving the speaker it was great to hear so clearly) playing guitar and banjo (not at the same time)…

Tony and his string bass which seems to be part of his body and some nice notes flowing from that…

Our Craig again what drumming with the smile and the solo we have been asking for…

I do not think I have ever heard so much applause from the fans…

Not forgetting Simon who seems to have such feeling in his voice nowadays, loving the way he seems to sing to each one of us…

Peter sat in on a couple of numbers for Craig on the drums …

A few numbers  which were even more gorgeous that the rest Tiger Rag being one of them, so wish I could have taped that one, and The end Swing one… but all were really great you deserved all the wonderful appreciation from the crowd.

I am sorry to say I had my camera on the wrong setting so a lot of the photos did not come out good enough but will post a few of the better ones, will I never learn!

Thanks again to all the people who support the Sole Bay and their friends, who faithfully follow them to hear such great music, they so appreciate it…I know a lot of them look in on here, and I am proud to publish their talent even in a small way.

What a lucky person I am …I say it each time as the nights when we go to the jazz are full of lovely music and wonderful friends and laughter.

Thanks again to Heidi as she runs the bar like a real pro… and Jon and Marilyn for making us welcome. We certainly need a few more chairs, bet you did not think we would be so many followers Jon!

So nice that after the football was over last night many of the lads said how much they had enjoyed the band when they came in from playing, maybe a few more fans there!

Looking forward to finding out next weeks line up, when we  hope to see a good crowd again…

JAZZ NIGHT

Well that was a night with a difference with some of the Sole Bay and some very good extra's!

Well done Chris for making it a fun night, and the jokes were good, although the speaker which is hidden each week behind the post, stopped a lot of the comments coming through, I had to repeat the Gorilla joke to some one ha ha!…
Also I could not hear Barbara and she plays so well she was tucked away in the back…

Note to self get a better seat next week closer to the band…

Simon you actually opened your eyes! The singing as always was really good.…

I must say it is nice to see a sparkling white shirt and waistcoat, thanks Geoff you played well with  our crew…and you have a very good voice!

Tony at at last I have you with your eyes open, Derek giving us a real blast on the Saxophone… Some great clarinet playing as well…Neil that was a posh shirt as well…

All in all a good night very different with the line up…

Heidi what a great job you do behind that bar, was pleased to see Jon coming to help as it was a busy night…

Nice to see some new people again… Jon we will soon have to enlarge the seating!

Thanks for all the good music and company.

You know just click on the photos to enlarge some are a bit grainy as could not get too close and used the zoom, but hope it gives an idea of how the night went.

Alistair Griffin Live!

Wow! Can I say wow at my age!
Alistair was live on "This Morning" that was a nice surprise!
sister in law rang as she had been watching good job she was as I was gardening! would have missed him… so I managed to watch him sing "Drive" but not learned yet how to tape on my new TV.

So pleased he is getting recognition at last, his new album "Albion Sky" is really good.

Jazz  Live tonight at Ditchingham remember!
Hope to see a nice crowd to support the Sole Bay Boys.

STRAWBERRY FAIR 2012

Another year gone by and the Strawberry Fair at Somerleyton in aid of the Lowestoft Lifeboat took place at the beautiful house of Sue and Dennis… as last year it was a pleasure to be there, 7 helpers which included me this year I am happy to say, and of course Dennis who worked so well finding enough chairs and sorting drinks taking photos and in general working hard, but always with a
smile on his face.

I had a great time with the 'Girls' helping to prepare the food, and I must say everyone made wonderful cakes and scones …

We were all worried about the weather of course, but the sun was shining so all the chairs and tables were set out cushions on when just before the ladies were due to arrive the heavens opened, oh dear what a shame, however everyone trailed into the house and drinks were provided …chatter etc all around, then the sun came out again, so chairs and tables all wiped down and out we all go again, just got settled when of course thunder and rain again … so back indoors… thank you Sue and Dennis good job you have a nice large house!

About 35 people enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches…scones…cakes…strawberries and cream…shortbread…tea…coffee… in fact a great lunch was had by all…

Dennis took photos as he did last year, a donation going to the Lifeboats …
He always manages to make us look good!

All the helpers took turns in helping to clear up, but of course Sue and Dennis would have the bulk to do after we had all gone home… So once again thank you both for opening your house to us, and June thank you for volunteering me to help as I really enjoyed it all… tired but happy to help a good cause and have fun whilst doing it.

I took several photos again as I did last year, but I think this one sums it up!
All dressed up waiting for the rain to ease!

Night Out

Friday night I enjoyed once again a night out in the compnay of some good friends at the Beccles Conservative Club…

Kevin Barry was playing and singing, with his guitar and banjo… what a talent he is, he really gets the people going, we had a sing along lots of dancing and great fun.

Not a great many folk there this time, holiday times for a lot of people…but certainly he got a really good reception as he gives great value, … it takes a lot of belief in ones self to stand alone in front of an audience and give them the feeling he is singing to each and everyone one, lots of banter and as I said great music.… well done young man, looking forward to your next visit.

Live at the Green Man

Tim, Phil, Brian and Ivars playing live at the Green Man, Rackheath on Tuesday, 3rd. July.

"Lover Come Back to Me"

Enjoy!

Great Thursday night of music

Rather late again with the report on the Sole Bay on Thursday night, been a busy lady …went out again last night for yet more music of a different kind which I will put on the blog as lots more talent out there of a different kind … as Stella always says make the most of life and we do! I am waiting for one of my boys to come and tell me what I am doing wrong when  putting my photos on here! so should be able to post a couple of the Sole Bay later today…

So what a great line up we had and some really wonderful upbeat music they played, as well as the line up on the post below, we had Simon to sing some songs as well.

I was pleased to see a nice crowd, some more new folk coming as well, it makes it all worth while for the band members, as they appreciate a good audience and they certainly had one.

Craig did a grand job on the drums…loved the last one Craig…and lovely to see and hear Barbara again playing banjo, Tony (the prof) on his double bass… so brilliant, he stands there up the corner each week and plays … the backing he provides is really a joy to listen to, nice to see Derek again another brilliant musician…Tony Parsons on the trombone wow, and some great songs… always makes you feel he is singing to you personally… as does Simon it was so good to hear him as he again brings a different style… of course Tim who seems to hold it all together , maybe we should get  a louder and higher mike because sometimes we cannot hear all his witty comments in between the playing and he has such a knowledge of who wrote the music, and you know how I love to listen to his great playing.

So another night of live music thank you Sole Bay it is always a pleasure to hear you playing for us fans…

Looking forward to hearing from Alan about next week already! and I promise to get it on here earlier, as I do know how many people look in to see who is playing even if I do moan that I do not get many comments, I am just pleased that people find this useful.

Thanks to June and all the lovely friends that go to the jazz, how lucky am I!

The Green Man Rackheath

Last night I was once again spoiled as Tim took me to The Green Man at Rackheath he was playing jazz with Brian Mcallister on drums Ivars Galenieks double bass and Phil Brook on guitar… they were as always very good
and a really enjoyable night was had by all.

I was allowed to sit at the band table, so I had the best seat in the place to listen to such melodic music.

I did take a little video, which I will try and put on at a later date but in the mean time I did take a couple of photos… I am not making excuses and I know I could make them better in photo shop, as the lighting makes Phil's hair a strange colour, but will leave it, I must learn my photo shop but for now you have the photos as I took them…click on them to enlarge and I rather like the moody one…
Thanks Tim much appreciated as always and great playing, lovely meal and good company. Nice to see Jean and Vic again… twice this week.

Alistair Griffin

Just to say thank you to my friend Lesley in London for phoning me this evening to say Alistair was going to be live tonight on the computer, so have just watched him he has not changed, still as mad as ever and just as gorgeous, love his voice …

Saw a lot of my friends from the past on the comments and then wished I had joined face book, but never mind. I do keep in touch with a few of them during the year. Nice to see that F1 put in some comments will always remember the night Jake Humphries (who has gone on to present sport)…and Alistair when we met at Norwich.

So thanks for the great music and some lovely memories, and looking forward to the album which should be arriving here very shortly… as I pre ordered it!

"Albion Sky|, Alistair we have waited a long time for it and by the sound of the songs tonight it will be worth the wait. You brought back some great memories from when I used to come to your gigs…

Thanks again Lesley … Jan really glad you enjoyed it.

Norfolk Dixieland Band… Reepham

A lovely day of sunshine and music …
Thank you Tim for inviting me and for your company as well Tony…
I always love putting photos up of the Norfolk Dixieland, as they look so smart in their blue!

The music was really really good and  nice to see a lot of fun going on as well… Tony your voice is great,  rather good trombone also! we had Pete singing as well as banjo and guitar… John trumpet and singing…so what a lot of talent…Liz so good to see and hear you again, and of course wishing you all the very best for the end of the month for your marriage to Ben. Pete you know how I love your guitar playing, Vic I did show Jean the photo sorry about giving you a hat! but good drumming, I always feel sorry for all the hard work that goes into drum players setting the drums up and taking them down after the gigs, but at least it was dry this week Jean!

Thanks so much as always to Jean and Judy, you always make me welcome…also thanks again Tim for thinking of taking me, and Tony for putting up with my chatter…

Lovely day not as many people as usual, but those who were there had a treat and they showed how much they enjoyed it. live music is so great.
