Sole Bay Jazz NIght…

Thanks to all who came and supported the Band at the Sports Pavilion last night, there were not so many as usual which was a shame as they missed a brilliant night of live music…But the regular fans provided  some great applause, so sorry for all those who were too ill with coughs and colds and other things to do, so could not come …we missed you. But we had  lots of seats to spare which we do not normally have!!!

How lucky are we to have such talent, and the seven musicians last night gave us all a great evening of fine music and fun as well.

What a line up Tim  as usual on Sax and Clarinet, not only playing but giving us loads of information and some giggles, Simon playing well… looking good and sounding great, rather nice vocals…Trummy on the trombone and arseonium! (as Tim calls it) so many notes that fellow manages to play…

Ray came along and  gave us some great piano… always nice …and we like him when he  plays trumpet as well…the usual three backing group of Tony, Alan and Craig, working  well and sounding good, even though Craig was not well he can still play those drums!

Heidi as always providing her smile and keeping the bar going well…

Hope you had a good birthday June! sorry we were not good with the singing!

Good luck to Jean who is having her other eye op on Wednesday… and for anyone else in need of a hug!

Thanks Sole Bay and guests you were great…

SOLE BAY JAZZ FOR EASTER…

Every week I get more and more amazed at the talent we have locally, and last night at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham… The Sole Bay Gentlemen, gave us a really great start to the Easter Break, with a wonderful melodic full on Jazz night of live music…

What  great crowd again as well as the usual fans , nice to see even more new faces there to support the Band…

Everything went so well, some really great playing, with some pretty awe inspiring solos from them all…Sorry we have not got enough seats for all who support the band, but when Jon has the new building done maybe we will have enough then!

Ray taking over the master of ceremony's roll and organising everyone to take turns in providing is with some very  sweet sounds, not sure April showers was apt ha ha. But that solo of Georgia was something special…

Tim as always a great player, and with all the cheeky comments… with Tony P on the trombone so soft and moody, mmmm and the voice was great… pity you had a problem with the mike but you even turned that into a great laugh…

Alan who spends so much time organising the line ups each week, playing guitar and banjo with gusto. Tony J that sweet bass was swinging last night, and Craig, who was not feeling good with a very bad cold , played like the devil was on his shoulder, so well done young man you got the applause you deserved, great playing.

Roy gave us some vocals as well, loved them all but the slow one was very nice Roy…keep smiling…

Thanks Jazz Janet for helping me with the raffle, and didn't we do well! As it is free to come and listen to the band, it is so nice to see each week people who listen manage to dig in for the raffle as it is what helps to have this live music every Thursday night.

Thanks Jan for taking me, bet you will be glad when I can drive again! but again I must say thanks to all who came to support the band, and I know you had a great time by the amount of cheering.

Heidi, well I say it each week, what a great little barmaid you make, never flustered, always with a smile, and you were so busy as well so glad Jon arrived at the end to help clear up.

Nice to have some Easter goodies to eat, we had a nice lot on our table but the Coven table will not be hungry toady ha ha…

Hope to take some photos when eyes get better, in the meantime you I hope will enjoy my ramble on as it was a superb evening of live music, Thanks Sole Bay…

Sole Bay Jazz with friends…

What  great night of live music at the Sports Pavilion last evening, and also what a good crowd of people listening to some really talented musicians…

Some really good solos from all the members…A fabulous musical treat, thank you band…

Ron as always when he comes to visit plays with such feeling, Ray on the piano seems to find more notes than there is on the keyboard…Craig with some good drums as always, Alan a duet with Ron was so nice…Alan  well done with the line up as always something different each week, you are appreciated …Tony on his string bass with some magic in his fingers with that big instrument…Tim at the helm playing well as always,  on Clarinet/Sax and that Baritone sounds so good…with Ron and him on the Clarinets and Saxophones giving us some talented magic…How lucky were we all.

Then to top it we had Simon Denny to sing for us, some real moody yummy songs, nice to see you back Simon. Roy and Jenny could have a rest from singing for a change.

Great as well to see some friends from the Norfolk Dixieland Band on a visit to listen.

Thanks to Jazz Janet again for helping me with the raffle, I do appreciate it, I did a little to help last night I hope, I miss chatting to all the folk, and I am sorry if I did not speak to many of you as still unable to see much without my specs! Thanks as well to Colin, Duncan, Don and Jan for the folding of the tickets as they always do, and of course Keith who organises it.and well done to everyone who put their hands in pockets to help with keeping these talented gentlemen coming to play live music for us all on a Thursday night. Sorry you cannot all win a prize…but it is mainly for the band…

Heidi what a great young lady looking after the bar,  making a fantastic job of it and always with a smile, thanks Heidi.

I think we will have to start bringing our own chairs, as some already do, it will soon be better weather and then we can sit outside as well…amazing that we have such talent on our doorstep, and so many people are making the most of it, so thank you all…

The Sole Bay Jazz Thursday gig…

Alan has once again found a great line up for Thursday evening the 10th April… at the Sports Pavilion, Ditchingham.

Tim Densham…Clarinet/Saxophone

Ron Hockett… Saxophone Clarinet

Ray Simmons…Piano

Craig Hipperson…Drums

Tony Jullings…String Bass

Alan Cugnoni…Guitar/Banjo

That is a lot of talent on show… and I am sure someone will get invited to give us a song as well…

Always a different line up of talent on a Thursday night, so hope a good crowd turns up as usual, you cannot get such a good night of live music with such talent for free very often… whoops well apart from Jazz Janet or me selling raffle tickets … I must say most people are so generous as it helps to keep the band coming along and live music is the best! as you all know…

Norfolk Dixieland Band

Yesterday, the Norfolk Dixieland Band played an extra gig at the 'Goat' Skeyton, and once again the place was packed full.

It is a great place for a meal as well as listening to the Band, and the word spreads each time, and however many times one goes, the meals and the friendly staff never let you down.

Thanks as always for taking me Tim, and the meal, so lovely to meet up with Jean and Judy and the gang as always. Hope you get to the Dr's Jean take care, get some wheels on those drums! Judy hope you got to see a repeat of the boat race!

We have to sit away from the band which play in the garden room, as people book to sit and eat and listen from one time to the next, so we wait until a table becomes clear so we can join in the band, but of course we can hear from the bar, and we can chat …

Sorry no photos, but they looked good as always in their blue shirts black trousers and yellow ties, great playing, and lovely to see Liz on the bass again, with Dad Peter guitar/banjo and that great voice…Vic on drums, John on cornet and vocals, Bill as lovely as ever on trombone, and of course Tim on clarinet and saxophone…

Thanks for a great day out.

Sole Bay Jazz 3rd April…

What a great night of live music and fun…

Have a lot of  'thanks' to put on here this week……

Thanks Jan for taking me and of course thanks to all the good wishes about my eye,, which is great, felt a bit strange wearing sunglasses, but being a very short sighted person, and having to wait 4 weeks for eye to settle down and have new spec! , must take care as eyes are precious. Great that Jean is doing well with her new eye! and good luck for the end of April when she has the other one done.

Thanks of course to dear Jazz Janet who has taken  on the raffle for me…

Now enough about me …

A really good crowd came along to listen to the Sole Bay and they were not disappointed …and that includes our little 'crowd' our table gets bigger by the week… But will either have to move our chairs up a bit (are you reading this Les??? or the band will have to go back a bit as that post certainly blocks the view.…

A group of talented musicians making it again a bit different. of course Craig gave us some very good drumming, and Ray on Piano tinkling the ivories…Derek what a player. Allan gave us some vocals as well as cornet and trumpet, Tony on bass, mmm very nice, Alan on guitar and banjo keeping the beat…Tim as always our main stay a great musician and witty with it! some great music all round thank you all…I hope you the band …enjoyed it as much as everyone there…

To add to the night we also had our Roy singing, and a new one from him, very classy Roy …think Derek might have had a hand in the arrangement? anyway it was good, then our Jenny, a nice quiet one to start with, and then' Hard Hearted Hannah' wow Jenny well done, as you could tell by the applause, you know how we all admire you for your determination to fight your illness and you can have a gold star for last night!

Heidi as always such a worker, and that lovely smile thank you…

So if you missed the night, (as I had to last week) sorry but you missed a good one…

Hopefully some photos next week…
