Thursford Norfolk

These images I hope may tell you what a great place Thursford Museum is....

It started just with steam engines, and then at Christmas time they have a Magical Christmas every year. and it is like a fairy tale, the old museum is transformed into a unique fantasy once seen never forgotten....

During the year they have open days, and that is where yesterday I went with some of my family...They have a Wurlitzer show twice a day, where Robert Wolfe has been playing for years, and he is so very very good....

The photo above is of an old Hammond organ. but was thrilled with the cutouts of the past.....
It is of course very dark in there, so photo's not great, but the roundabout is gorgeous...
Liz wondering whether to exchange her Audi with a steam engine.
These engines were all working in the past, and they have spent many years bringing them up to the standard they are today....a lot of loving care over the years...
Of course the magic also is in the beautiful restored organs.... this one is called Wellershaus.. it was designed for the fairground.. and was discovered in Amsterdam....where George Cushion managed to persuade the old showman to part with it and give it a new lease of life....
This one is called the Mortier. but the name Oscar rather made me take the photo!!!very much an old cinema feeling to it...
The Marenghi above is truly great.. it started life in Paris in 1905 then it went to Belfast, where in 1959 they bought it for Thursford...very colourful !
And me being a lover of Jazz had to have a couple of photo's of this one.. it is called Gebrs Decap....it is Belgian in origin, but was found in a 60's dance hall in Holland where George Cushion who owned the museum bought it for Thursford.....
The sax a great instrument...can almost hear it playing....

There is so much more there, and if anyone gets the chance to visit it is well worth the journey.. Katie you must get Dive to take you there, and see the Christmas show one year....

My thanks again to Jan and Liz .....and for Derek for the meal and yummy home made organic ice cream.... and B&B who are on holiday from Australia....for a great day out....glad we managed to get there with my map reading!

Lowestoft Air Show

Ivan took sister in law and myself to the Local air show today. we have had sunshine, showers of rain, thunder and lightening and got wet and dry again, and had a great time...

But my camera is not good for taking the fast high planes, so hope you can get an idea from the shots I did manage...
The skies were really great
We had half an hour of Red Arrows and they were brilliant.
One upright and one upside down, Oh Katie could have done with your camera!
Sorry but as I said the skies were good....the Red Arrows had just been through with their smoke....
A colourful Hawker Hunter......and the sky got darker...
These wing walkers were very good, the wind was very strong, you would not have got me up there for anything!
The Meteor has to be one of my favourite oldies....
And the Spitfire showing us, although slower, it can do what all the jets can do....

Southwold again!!!!

Went for a lovely trip to Southwold yesterday lunchtime, and we sat and ate fresh crab sandwiches on the edge of the river, and watched the Sunday sailors going about their fun.
Trust me the camera was not out when the men jumped overboard to stop the boat, apparently with all that wind they have to do that to stop the sail! missed a couple of good shots, but hope you enjoy these...
Happy Sunday sailing and getting wet.... they have a nice sailors rest bar on the shore so sure they got wet inside as well as out!

Evening July Walk

A lovely walk on a Saturday evening with a cool breeze blowing after a hot humid day, took these few photo's hoping they would show you what a great little place Beccles is....
These two geese decided to pose for me!
Seems so peaceful doesn't it...
Not as good as some people can take. (Dive and Katie) but have done my best with my little camera...
Nice lot of boats in for the summer..
We came across these newly put up notices, and hope you can click on them and read about our history...
Great little piece of local news that should get some people to the Beccles Museum!
That is if they get this far up the river bank......

Oscar feeling the heat.

It is so hot at the moment here, feel sorry for all the furry animals!, Oscar cooled down on the old path and played with a stick......but mostly he sleeps in this weather..

I suspect we will be moaning about the rain soon!

Hangar Dance

Hope these do not frighten you too much! this was me ready for dancing the night away at the annual 40's Hangar Dance, held as one would guess in the hangar on Ellough Airfield..... close by.....sadly I forgot my camera, so these few are from my dear niece's mobile phone hopefully more to follow, as another nice person took a few......

You cannot see here the wonderful people who were dressed in all sorts of forces uniforms, american as well, some sailors of all ranks.....and everything people wore in the war years.....it was so clever, so many nurses, spivs, tarts and people in posh frocks with gloves which we wore then...and of course stockings with seams, some who had their partners draw the seam on their legs as we did in the war ....all shapes and sizes of people.... ..The hangar was full , 540 people we believe.... all in aid of the local Waveney Hospice Care charity... and a really good night was had by all...everyone behaved well.. of course with all the MP's and guards around with rifles etc and a dog!! of course I can remember it for real.... in fact the invitations were made like the old identity cards, and I still have mine from 1940.. whoops.....

The big band were so great we are very lucky to have such talented people who can play wonderful music.. and the dancing by some, well, it was a joy to watch , and to join in as well....learned to do some swing jazz with a sailor, well not a real one! but he was very nifty on his feet......
Dear Liz and James Liz being saucy as usual.....and looking good....
Ivan and me ....he was dressed as an ARP warden, but he refused to wear the hat....
This is rather blurred but you can see we were having a good time..

Hopefully as I have said there may be more...
