Old cars

Every year there is here in England, a veteren car race from London to Brighton..... there was a film called Genevieve that was a great take off of this...

Over the years there has not been the coverage of such a great race...pity as it is a good way of seeing how people take care of old transport....

The hubby of my dear niece was a driver in this, he is in the first car here....and he and the others got a real soaking....as last weekend the heavens opened when the race took place.... you have to give praise for those poor open car drivers......well done to all of you... you should have worn gloves James you look very cold.....maybe next year someone will realize that the cars are part of our history and will pay it more attention....

Works of art................

I know how a lot of people do not like spiders, but as not many people look on here nowadays, had to just put this photo I took of my monkey tree this morning. the spiders have been very busy, my camera does not really do them justice......they look like lace......
Clever little things garden spiders.......

Oscar.....

Honestly just look at the state of him!!!!!this was a few days ago...... today we had to go and visit the vet.... as he has a terrible throat and cough, however after her examination it is not too serious and he has had an antibiotic injection..

OK Dive he does weigh 6.5 kgs!!!!! but she said he was a lovely healthy animal, and his heart is fine and temp OK, just a scratched throat.....so all my worrying was for nothing.....

This 20 minutes cost £45... even more than my osteopath.....however as we both drink Aloe Vera daily the visits to the vets are few and far between..... in fact I think he was 8 months when we last went, and he will be six next year.....so Phil you bought me a healthy cat all those years ago....even if I do spoil him....

Flixton Air Museum Sunday

The big band looking rather serious before starting to play at the open day at Flixton ...
I wish I could have recorded the sound as well ... it was amazing.. the sound in the hanger was really good....the dancers are from the swing jive group, they were at the Hanger Dance we went to earlier in the year, and taught Liz and I how to do some steps!!
Such energy hope you can imagine how it was....

This is a blur as they were going so fast.....
The Lancaster did a fly past ..a great climb....afraid my little camera could not capture it as on Dives blog at Goodwood, but I tried....
Our friends Bev and Tony ... I know you have some great shots of everything Tony, looking forward to seeing them.....
There is a walk that takes you down to the river, and Jan hid behind me she is like me does not like having her photo taken!!!, and I told you to smile Derek not grimace....you know I like to put the pics on here, so next time grin more!!!

And Liz we will have to learn a few more steps for next year so we can join in, ha ha think I am a little old for that really, but can live in hope...
Anyway a great day ....nice to meet up with lots of friends and family, and old school friends as well.. roll on next year....

Grand Henham Steam Rally 2009

Another year gone by, and back to Henham again, last year mainly old buses was the theme, this year gorgeous horses......as well as the steam engines as always....
The love and care that they put on these machines is remarkable...
This is girl power!!!!
Think they outgrew this one!
This is Rocky, he was so calm, as were all the Suffolk Punches..... we sat on a straw bale and watched them parage round, and they are great in everyway.....
The lady driving this carriage has lovingly restored it but the horse she obviously loves and it was so smart...we watched the classic cars as well, but think I put them on here last year....
Do not remember seeing this last year.....there were lots of woodcutters of course and some of their work was wonderful...
In the tents were the crafts, amazing how good some people are, lace making and spinning wheels, could not take photo's of everything, but all the old crafts there....

Plus those great steam organs playing away all the time, very nice indeed...

And of course meeting lots of old friends as one wandered around, always great... (and if you are looking in Bev and Tony sorry we missed you, at the hog roast, but thanks for the lovely evening last night.).....mmmmm ..yes the hog roast, (sorry vegetarians)....was yummy.
This of course is what it all used to be about getting troshed! how they managed to keep this going each year is amazing....just imagine what it used to be like for all those farm workers.....

Thanks for taking me Ivan I know how much you wanted to go, and I said I didn't ....but I really did enjoy it all.....

Flower Festival 2009. Somerleyton.

How time does fly... time once again for Somerleyton Flower Festival...Jan rang yesterday morning, and off we went ..met up with Liz, and once again it amazed us where all the ideas for the flowers come from......

This year it was "Life's Journey" from Birth to Death.... I have put a few of them on here..hope you enjoy.

Firstly of course the stained glass there is gorgeous..
Think I put the tower on last year so this is the rest of the church, settled in the grounds of Somerleyton Hall, my father in law used to work at Somerleyton farm, so have spent many happy years around this estate.....
This was so sweet.....
Lovely ideas and another sweet item...
Not sure if this depicts teenage years nowadays though, but well arranged...
This was very clever, traffic lights and steering wheels...
They always have a music one, this was great ...still we think the one of jazz 2 years ago takes some beating....
The altar always has a good display but this year is was really great.
The flowers for the hair we thought particularly good..
We also loved this one as both Liz and I love to dance....in fact Liz and James have medals for their dancing...

Of course nowadays there seems to be a lot of divorce, such a shame...
The programme was ......
1.Birth.2.Christening.3.First steps.4.Family.5 Infant School.6.Junior School.7.Teenage Years. 8. Learning to Drive.9.21st Birthday.10. Graduation.11. Music.12. Faith.13. Hobbies.14. Career.15.Courtship.16.Wedding. 17.Dance.18.Parties 19.Silver Anniversary.20.Gold Anniversary.21 Divorce. 22.Death.

Hope you enjoyed a few of those, thanks again for you Jan always great to be with you and Liz....

Sunday afternoon with friends....

Last year. I had the chance to go to a lovely venue locally to see Martin Taylor, I rang Dive and said "who was Martin Taylor"? well I expecct you can imagine the result, he said he was only the best jazz guitarist around...so with my friends Bev and Anthony we went, and wow Dive was correct, he was great. I posted a photo of Martin and I on here, as he was so very nice and chatty, liked my accent!!

So Ivan ,Bev, Anthony and me went off for a Sunday afternoon to see Martin and Alison Burns who is his daughter in law, and a great singer.... (Dive had already got me the cd earlier in the year)....and it was all great, so informal .. the first time they had done an afternoon gig, and it was very much audience participation, we had lots of laughs...so relieved you liked it Ivan as it was the first time you had heard them...
In the interval we all went outside in the sun and had a cuppa......
Hope your photo's came out as well as these Anthony!! thanks for taking us and for the company...
As I mentioned all nice and informal and what lovely weather.. Andrew who organises these events is chatting in the middle of this pic...
Another view of the relaxing folk... Anthony you are as bad as me for not liking your photo taken....look forward to seing you both again soon..

Birthday Treat

This is called the New Roundhouse. a little hideaway restaurant hidden in lovely grounds in Thorington Suffolk...

Not so hideaway as we knew nearly all dining this lunchtime so it got rather friendly. I also had Happy Birthday sung to me by my dear neighbour Joyce...

Ivan took Dive and Phil and myself there for my birthday treat today.....Dive has all the food pics no doubt they will appear at some time on his blog!!

Dive took this of the old gal!!! pretty flowers at the front!!
So I returned the favour, you can see we had a good meal!
A very reluctant Phil who hates having his photo taken!
Ivan found some holiday makers to chat to, while Phil looked upwards!
Could not resist this one of the chestnut bark...

Thanks for a really lovely day folks.....
