Sole Bay Jazz Band plus…

Well the farewell party continued last evening with the Sole Bay Jazz Band playing wonderful music plus Simon singing, that was certainly a great send off and tribute to dear Keith, who as I have said a lot of late that he will always be there in spirit.

Before anything, must add that the family put on the best buffet I have seen for a while, thank you all for letting us share in it all, and plenty for people in the evening as well.

I took a few photos which tells the story more than I can I suppose, as it was such good music, and Simon so brave and sounding really great with some very moving songs that brought  tears from some of us. His outfit great especially the wearing of his dad's bow tie and braces well done young man. Oh that sounds as though he did not have a suit on! but he did and very smart as well.

Just must say a big thank you to all those who supported the raffle and it was a good one with great prizes and Heidi won the star one, which was such a lovely moment as she deserved that as the family had bought it also Keith was so very fond of her as we all are, nice to hear the cheers Heidi and thank you for the good job you do and those lovely smiles.

Such good friends there as always… must mention thanks to my Jan for driving back and forth yesterday, also with her,Colin, Duncan,Don for the job as always of folding those raffle tickets, many people have suggested an easier way for the raffle but so good to see the lines of tickets  on the tables it is such a good laugh as well especially last night, thanks Tim for making it so amusing…

Great to see the family enjoy the evening with dancing as well, and some of the fans joining in! an evening to remember, hope there are not too many sore heads this morning!! Lovely family who have always made me feel welcome, nice to see them altogether.

Nice to see some folk back after illness or breakages!!!! and sending all the best to those of the fans who are too unwell to come along, we miss you.

Thank you to all the faithful members of the band who played so well again and I know Keith will always be there with us to hear it every week. and of course dear Sheila who was brave and sweet as always, I am sure I can speak for everyone that we look forward to seeing her every week to be with all her friends as it is hard to lose our loved ones, but so good to have friends who can ease the pain and help to carry on with life.

Farewell Keith…

Today we said goodbye to Keith Denny,  (but think his spirit will always be at the heart of his family and the jazz family) it was a pleasure to know him, he was so very good to me  I was proud that he choose me to help do a raffle which enabled the  great live music we have each week… he worked  hard making sure the books were kept right also providing the prizes, some we always had a little giggle over bless him, I will certainly miss you Keith.

He leaves dear Sheila with us all, I do not think I have ever known such a lovely lady who takes everything that is thrown at her and comes up smiling, they have been through a lot together, but the family has always come first, and he was so proud of them all.

The funeral was really a thanksgiving for his life and I cannot praise the family enough for how it was all handled, they sure know how to bring tears and laughter to life.

Thank you one and all and thank you for the wonderful wake that we all so enjoyed as it felt like it was a big celebration.

I will do a report on the wonderful evening of jazz tomorrow, think it may have been the best yet.

Thank you Sole Bay Band and friends Could imagine Keith looking down on you all and you did him proud.
*********************************************************************************
This morning I thought I would write a little more about Keith's farewell, as it was such a fitting memorial for him, as the hearse arrived at the crematorium some of his friends from the Sole Bay Jazz played  and it was very moving for everyone, Keith would have loved it…

A great service as I have mentioned and  again must say the family did him proud.

Tim played a clarinet solo with backing from Tony and Alan, as a tribute of one of Keith's favourite tunes, Si tu vois ma mere' and not many dry eyes but it was great, must have been hard for him as he was very close to Keith over the years.

Simon did a collage of some of Keith's memories of the family, well done Simon it was wonderful…and hope you do not mind me putting it on here…

I would also like to add that at the wake it was so good to see some of the dear musicians that over the years have played for us all and especially for Keith, great to see you Bill and Mike, keep well and do not leave it too long until we see you there again.

Thank you to the family for letting us all share those great memories.

Norfolk Jazz Quartet…

Great lunchtime out yesterday at The Goat Skeyton, thanks Tim for taking me, and for the lovely company of friends…How lucky were we to have sunshine!

Such good music by talented musicians, lovely to hear jazz standards also music from the American Song book …Loved some of the new ones played (great sight reading Liz and Peter)! in a very nice atmosphere if you have not been there do try and get to listen to either the Quartet or the Norfolk Dixieland Jazz Band.

The Jazz Band is playing next on the 4th October, and the Quartet  on the 18th October…

Sole Bay Jazz with Guests…

Another good evening of live music last night at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham…

It was good to see such a good if very talkative audience to support these fine musicians…and thank you for delving deep for the raffle which of course as you all know helps to get live music every Thursday evening. Also thanks to those who contribute prizes for the raffle which really helps.

Some great playing and again different with the mix and with some of the old favourites played … A nice happy band and some giggles, so thanks to you all.

No photos as 7 musicians and a singer not very close together would have been too much for my little camera!

Thanks to the stand in drummer Gary, you did well fitting in. nice fast fingers flowing from Ray on the piano, some guitar and banjo from Alan, nice to see him back, the Prof, on the double bass as always a star, Derek amazing chap really enjoys his playing, Bill who I thought played a super trombone, gets more notes out each time he plays, and Tim who as usual tries to take a back seat while heading the band! Simon for the great songs.

Heidi as always smiling and keeping the punters happy with the grog! some rather 'happier' than others!!!

As I said lovely songs last night Simon, very heartfelt, and the little talk about Keith's wake which is next Thursday, where it will be a  good night with the flavour of a fine man who was always there leading the following for live jazz music. We miss you Keith, but you will always be there in spirit of course. Great to see Sheila in her usual seat, and the family who are very close to us all as well as each other…a brave front  it must be hard I know but Keith would be proud.

Good friends …still a lot of regulars not able to attend because of illness, and some on holiday.
But hope to see a good crowd next Thursday, and of course maybe quite a few to say a farewell to Keith at the Gorleston Crem at 1.20 and afterwards at the club where the family would love to see you to share happy memories… Oh yes and a bigger raffle!

Then an evening of live music Alan will give me the line up but is should be a ball!

Thursday's Musical night

Well that was a very different evening of live music at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham…

A nice lot of regular fans turned out to hear Roy and his Band, very sad to say apart from them, not as many people there to support the band, maybe lots of reasons, but a pity that so few were there.

Personally I have heard all of the talented people playing much better, but know a lot of the lads were not feeling top notch…Plus for me even though some of the songs were good …rather a lot of singing took place, but that is just me.

It is hard to put a lot of musicians together and expect it to gel, and for me sadly it did not flow, but as I said lots of nice music and some good singing did emerge…I suppose I was expecting Roy's usual fun night… never mind I do admire them all. I did manage to get nearly everyone in the photos so many music stands in the way! nice that Dave managed to get there to play drums as well as Craig…

Thanks to them all for providing us with live music and I do stress these are just my opinions. After all who am I to judge these are talented musicians but just the wrong mix of music for me last night…But hopefully you all enjoyed it.

Lovely to again see some of Keith's family there, well done, love you all, and such showmanship to turn out as I know dear Keith would have wanted you to, and Simon glad you managed to perform second half. It is hard for us to not see Keith sitting there however ill he may have been, so it must be so much more so for you, however Keith's love of live music kept him going so hope it helps you all.

Sadly the raffle was down …but next week I will be making you all make up for that I can assure you, so come prepared, as these musicians however they perform are there with live music and just for the price of a raffle ticket, so if you appreciate the Thursday nights, please come along and support them. You know what they say 'if you do not use it you will lose it'…Thanks to my usual raffle ticket folders!

For Tony's sister!

Norfolk Dixieland Jazz Band

The Goat at Skeyton was the venue for a great afternoon of live jazz music with the Norfolk Dixieland Band…

They are always good, but seemed  even better today, maybe because we were able to sit at a table in the room (thanks Colin and Duncan)…Liked the new bass Liz…lots of really happy music and singing great happy band…

Nice crowd, not as many as usual, but maybe the weather put people off a bit as it was cold then just as they finished of course the sun comes out!

Thanks to Jean and Judy  as always…Tim thank you for taking me I really do appreciate it, and lunch… the cheesecake was unusual, but yummy!

Thanksgiving…

Sad to say after someone dies, there will come a funeral, and the family of Keith have asked me to put the details on here for you jazz fans…

As it is Keith, who loved music and all that jazz…The family really wants this to be a thanksgiving of Keith's 83 years.

So on Thursday the 24th September at 1.20 pm at the Gorleston Crematorium the family would love you to come along to bid farewell… They have asked if possible not to wear to many dark unhappy clothes , but  happy colourful ones to say goodbye to their big man.

No flowers please, but if you would care to make a donation to The Bungay Health Practice, who have looked after Keith and Sheila for a long time, that would be appreciated.

The family would like you afterwards to come along to The Sports Pavilion at Ditchingham for the afternoon, and of course the evening, where there will be jazz… and a raffle!!!!

Sole Bay Jazz Band…

Personally I would  like to thank  all the family of Keith and Sheila who turned out to listen and hopefully enjoy the evening of jazz, in remembrance of Keith, it was rather a poignant night for me personally, because he has been so good to me and I always sit opposite him every week, we did the raffle together, so will miss you Keith and will make sure it carries on. I must mention my lovely helpers in the raffle who fold all those tickets each week, you are stars…

It must have been hard for Tim to play as he has been close to Keith for many years,  but the show must go on…loved that he mentioned the Cribbage Board, ha ha a nice touch.

The evening of jazz was a little, what can I say, a bit here and there at times , that sounds bad as a lot of good music was played, but think not everyone knew some of the keys so a lot of discussion went on between numbers, however as I said some great music came along in the end, nice solo Tim, and nice to see Ray keep his eye on Kevin as he was having to sight read most of the numbers, so well done to him, love the guitar as you all know, and he is such a happy chap!

Tony P on trombone… Craig and Tony J as always keeping the rhythm going, and Derek bless him been playing a lot of years now, doing the arrangements. Ray very good piano playing, fingers flying …great and nice that no one in front of us so could watch them.

Simon sang two songs that Keith loved …so did we all, and read out some poetry that Keith liked, well done Simon your Dad would have been proud of you. We also had Chris come along and give us a couple of vocals, always a smilie time with him, and Tony P who puts so much into his vocals thought we were going to miss you singing but glad you made it in the end…

I have to say thank you to the lovely people that come to listen every week and dig deep for the raffle as without it would be hard to find all these talented musicians, and what a great crowd last night, never enough seats, but so pleased many now bring their own! Nice to see some of our regulars back after either illness or falls, and sending love and hugs to all those who are still unwell, get better soon we miss you.

My thanks to Heidi, she had to work very hard last night, as so many people, hope they had designated drivers to get them home! nice to see your smiling face again. Jon was there for a while, nice to have a chat, liked the dance information!!!

I did not take photos so afraid you will have to image the band!

Next week we have another change, Roy Symonds and his band, I will let you know who is playing in that one when he gives me the list.

Keith Denny…

It is with a sad heart that I have been allowed to put on here to inform you all…
a brave Keith Denny passed on yesterday after a long illness, so bravely fought.

I know a lot of you will miss him, a real jazz man as well as a family man. He did not miss many Thursday nights and without him the raffle would not have been born … as he thought it a way to keep the Band going which it does.

Sheila and family will be with us tonight as it is what Keith would have wanted, brave folk who will bear their loss with dignity, and I know we will share their sadness, but he will be there in spirit loving the music and singing as always.

Rest in Peace and without pain Keith…
