Well unfortunately I, like a few others was unable to attend our Christmas Party on Thursday night, but I hear all went well with plenty of regulars and some new faces…

Lots of singing as well I hear…

I just would like to say a few Thank you's to …firstly the Sole Bay Jazz Band and friends who turn up every Thursday Evening to provide us all with talented live music… We are so lucky to have live music so close to home with just the raffle ticket to pay for! Such talent, and of course to Alan who organises it all, you are all great.

Speaking of the raffle… Keith and Sheila thank you from everybody for all your hard work with the raffle and the  books you keep in order, I have no idea why a few years ago you decided that I could help with a raffle to aid the band, but I am so glad you did, I thank you on a personal level for always making sure I have gifts, from you… you have no need to as I love meeting all the fans…it is  joy to be part of the 'Jazz' family, but I know you look after me. I do hope we can keep it all going in the future.

A special thank you to Tim as well for treating me out to our lovely meals …Smile!!!!you have become such a good friend.

Thanking as well Jazz Janet for helping out when I am not well enough, and of course  to our dear 'Boys' and Jan who fold the tickets every week…

To everyone at the Thursday nights gigs, I wish you all a Merry (not too merry) Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year…

I look forward to seeing you in the New Year, and once again thank you to everyone who helps to make the friendly place it is. of course to Jon and Marilyn for providing the venue…and our Heidi with the smile!!

Another great night of jazz from all those above, also had a few songs from Roy…

Would have liked to hear a few more duets from Ron and Tim as they play so well together… but Ray gave us some great piano playing, also would have liked him a bit nearer the others as he gets lost out on the side instead of nearer the front, but of course we cannot have everything. Tony, Craig and Alan keeping the beat as always…

Once again a bit loud for some of us, but at least it does cover the loud chatting that seems to go on regardless… however nice to know that everyone enjoys meeting up…and as long as the band does not let it bother them it does not matter.

Thanks to everyone for digging deep for the raffle which helps to encourage the band to keep playing each week.

On the 18th several of us have decided  not to do a big buffet to celebrate
Christmas this year… however please get together those who have tables to provide a few goodies, and for those who cannot… a few of us will make sure there will be plenty for everyone to go around…

Thanks to Jon for allowing us to do that, but do not forget to spend plenty at the bar… unless you are driving that is, as we want everyone to enjoy Christmas…

Sole Bay Jazz…

A good night of live Jazz at the Sports Pavilion last evening…

Not such a big crowd, maybe lots on TV! but still a good lot of regulars to meet up and enjoy some chat and music…Probably not one of the more upbeat nights, but very enjoyable maybe a little loud for some of the audience but that was due to the amps not the talent.

Lots of folk not feeling very well, maybe the time of year, and none of us are getting any younger …so firstly may I wish everyone who is not 100% a speedy recovery, not nice when some of our great friendly crowd cannot get to the music…

We had several different types of music, with vocals from Tony P (love Dr Jazz) and Roy sounding on top form once again…

I did manage a few photos, but have done something to my camera that has deleted a lot of favourite photos and it seems to be playing up but will keep trying to sort it… The band was more colourful last night so risked a few shots… thanks Fudge for cheering me up!

Thanks Jan for once again driving us…and to Heidi for keeping up the smiles even in the not very warm venue…June and the Coven table for the goodies, ha ha glad the amaretti biscuits went well with the wine June! In fact thank you to all our lovely regulars who make it a pleasure to have somewhere to go to meet up with live music and a friendly chat to warm the heart, oh and the cuddles! all for the price of raffle tickets, (well not the cuddles they come free) we are so lucky…

Last but not least thanks to the talented musicians who come along every Thursday night to play for us…I hope you know how much we appreciate it… Thank you…

Another great night from our talented gentlemen in the Sole Bay Jazz Band…

Tim, Ron and Ray providing us with some really grand music, with Clarinet and Saxophone and piano magic solos, while our back line kept the beat and some good drums from Craig as always…

We did have Geoff playing his harmonica for a number again, and Roy gave us a few songs whilst being entertaining…

A lot of folk had aches and pains and colds etc, so hope everyone soon feels better.

A good crowd once again to support the band, and hope they enjoyed it us much as I did. It is so good to see live music appreciated.

Thanks to Heidi as well for her swift serving and lovely smile…

Lovely friendly evening, and thank you for digging deep for the raffle.

Looking forward to Thursday evening for another live jazz session. thanks one and all…

****************************************************
Another great night of jazz from the Sole Bay Jazz Band and guests…

Some different music, even if it did take a while between tunes to decide what to play and what key! but they got there in the end…and provided us with a good night, with many notes coming from Trummy on the trombone and the 'arsonium' Tim mostly on Clarinet lovely as always, Bill with his saxophones nice to see him well again, they formed the front line, and our 3 back liners Tony on String Bass making it talk, Alan keeping the beat… and Craig what a great drummer he is lovely to hear a couple of good solos even if they were short!

Simon gave us some really touching singing, us 3 'Andrews Sisters' joined in but unfortunately the band did not notice us, but we had fun! Thanks Simon good to see you back as well…

A good crowd turning up again and some more new faces amongst the regulars…

Thanks as always to Keith for getting the raffle prizes and sorting the money side, and for all of you who did dig deep as I keep asking as we do not charge an entrance fee, so what you give goes mostly to the band and a little for prizes, so we can have our Thursday night Jazz sessions… and of course thanks to Alan who gets the line up each week… a little bird told me some of the line up next week and it will be another good one!!!

Thanks to Heidi as she always manages to keep up with the flow of people at the bar, with a smile on her face…

Cannot believe we have been at the Sports Pavilion for 3 years this month, hope Jon has never regretted letting the band play there as we now get so many people attending, the chairs run out, but as always some of our regulars bring garden chairs…

Looking forward to next Thursday night, a great friendly crowd, even if some are rather noisy, ha ha you thought I had forgotten to mention the loud talk!

Dixie Mix at the Southwold Pavilion

Last night a crowd of us fans descended on the Pavilion at Southwold for an evening of entertainment, and we certainly got that…Thanks Jan for driving us all…

Dixie Mix are all talented musicians in their own right, but put them together, and you get a fast and furious and some gentle moments, that make the band what they are, so Thanks Boys you did it again…

Wow is all I can say for Pete's Clarinet rendition of Acker Bilk's Stranger on the Shore, tingles up my back, and the applause was loud… Pete is the butt of many 'Old' jokes but of course his playing is so good he can enjoy them! Tony on the Drums, what a player, and singing as well, love it when Simon and him do a duet…Kevin on the Guitar mmm love guitar… and of course the banjo, great playing… Chris that Trombone speaks volumes not too sure about the 'Ad' ha ha hope it was just a rubber joke. John  as usual putting his all into that Bass playing… and Simon a star… you always can make some banter and still loving the 'famous bit' well done to you all…

Great night, good company and a nice lot of cuddles…Good when one gets older to have hugs and they are good at hugs as well as music…

Lovely to meet up with some old friends as well …and a nice lot of the fans from Sole Bay Thursday evenings went along…

The photos are not great, but my little camera is not good with poor lighting, and of course the place was packed, so could not get near to the band without disturbing people, but thanks guys for posing for a few!

The committee  do a great job down there and give a lot to Charity so well done to them let us hope they can get a few more bands down over the winter for us all to hear, a hard job to organise these things, but so good to see it supported so well, the food was good as well,  well done to the kitchen staff…and the bar staff… mostly soft drinks as drink driving not a good idea…

Sole Bay Jazz + Guests + Friends…

Well that was rather a good evening of jazz… at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham

A good crowd came along to enjoy a first half of great jazz, and some vocals from Simon Denny (nice to see you back Simon) and Tony P…

Not enough chairs and some were kept for people that were expected later, which of course meant that some of the regulars had to stand, but as always some very thoughtful folk brought along garden chairs…

The second half after the raffle (thank you for those who let me talk them into paying a bit more)…

The 'friends' then arrived, …Ron Hockett and Ray Simmons who brought a Clarinet and Trumpet,  also  we had  melody from a harmonica for one number …sorry think his name was Geoff I apologise if I have got the name wrong… so much happening at that time…

So the fun began, so much banter going on with the musicians either playing all together, and others playing musical chairs as they sat out on some numbers, so created a great sound and also the audience were treated to a real jazz session, so thank you one and all…

Still some folk who do not come to hear the jazz and persisted in chatting all the way through, but thankfully the band played some loud numbers so it drowned them out!!

So I do hope that everyone appreciated how brilliant these musicians were as they just set to and provided us with a superb night of music and fun…

Tim.Tony J.Ron.Craig.Derek.Simon.Alan.Ray.Tony P…

I did take a lot more photos but I was so into the music, the old hands were shaking, but I know a lot of folk took some as well… but hope you can see how good it was and how lucky were we to be party of listening to them all…

Thanks Heidi as always a bright smile and how busy you were, well done…

Hope to see a nice crowd again next week to support these fine musicians…And of course thanks to all my friends who gather around on a Thursday night and make it a lovely evening…

Another walk…

Yesterday Jan and I had a trip to Lowestoft… had a good time wandering around the shops but still could not find a decent skirt!!!Mini's are for the young and tube skirts are for the thin!

So we went and had a bacon sandwich and a nice coffee in Godfrey's a favourite spot for us…

Wandered a bit more then decided time for a walk, so drove down to Sparrows nest, and managed to find a parking space as they are doing the car park up!!

We went back to Sparrows nest and then on to the prom…through the caravan park…and no Jan you do not need a mobile home!!

We then had a good walk right up and past the wind turbine, and as you will see Ian, as requested, I did manage to get Jan and a fisherman in the photos…

It was not such a good day weather wise and very windy, but some fishermen trying for a catch…

We should be getting nice and fit shortly ha ha  or not! very healthy walk nice sea air, feet and back aching ha ha what are two rather over past the age of long walks doing… there were not a lot of folk around I must admit, would not like to be there on my own! But thanks Jan we were lucky with the weather considering it was October 31st!

Started off with a bit of sun although windy…

A lone fisherman… no catch at that time…

Where did the fisherman go?

Wind turbine with Jan striding along…

Very stark along there yesterday…

Nice view of the lighthouse nestled in the trees…

Got a bit cloudy…

As it was Halloween night, found these two shadowy figures… spooky…

8pm-10.30pm

***************************************************************

Another good night of jazz …

Nice lot of solo playing a good crowd as well, nice to see yet more new faces, as not all the regulars can attend each week.

Everyone played well, Tim, and Derek up front supplied us with a lot of skill, and of course, Alan and Tony keeping the beat, I do love the Bass… Allan gave us some vocals as well as the cornet. Craig as always supplying the great beat nice one Craig…
Allan did a good job by halting some of the rather loud talking! and nice to hear an apology from one of the culprits,  Sorry my old rant again, I still cannot understand how people find so much to talk about constantly when they could listen to such good music, however we do all chat, but maybe some could do so a little quieter as it is so unfortunate to those especially at the back who do like to listen. It is a Jazz night after all…

We did have a lot of spaces (in between the music when everyone could chat)…while the band had to decide which key to play in! but we had a lot of different music. Thanks Band…

Thanks as always to Heidi who brings a ray of sunshine …

I did manage to do the raffle this week, my thanks to JJ who has been sitting in for me for a while, nice to torment everyone again! I do thank a lot of you who did up the ante and help a bit more as it does help to keep the band coming each Thursday…

Keep well everyone and hope to see a good crowd again next week…

Walk by the sea…

This lunchtime with the sun shining brightly for nearly the end of October, it would have been a shame to waste the time indoors, so Jan came and picked me up and we went to Pakefield again, and of course Fish and Chips were great …sitting on a bench looking over the sea, yes it was a bit windy, but lovely sea air…

We thought we would wander for a bit … well we started off towards Lowestoft,  on the cliffs, then went down to nearer the beach, and wandered, a lot of the huts had people outside and in them, so had nice chats along the way, we could not believe the amount of people out walking dogs, children playing on the beach, and all ages out walking in the sun…

So our little wander took us right down to the pier, so called in to see June who was helping at the Lifeboat shop… then started back along the prom… half way along we suddenly felt a change in the weather and some big clouds were around, so we upped our pace phew hard work, then the sun came out again so we slowed a bit, had an ice cream, and of course had to climb the slope back up to the car park ha ha how old are we… good exercise…

Thanks Jan what a great idea…
Never sure which way the photos will come out on here, but some are taken on the way and back…

Lovely beach empty at that end busy nearer Lowestoft…

Sole Bay Jazz and friends…

I do hope everyone who came to the Sports Pavilion last night enjoyed the music as much as I did! I noticed a few new faces again, a good crowd so nice to see, just the problem of chairs!!!

A great night I thought, lots of different music going on, and such talent, Love to hear Ron and Tim play together, and our backing group plus Ray on Piano, worked out really well.

Craig gave his all with those drums, always brings a big cheer…

Roy felt well enough to sing some songs for us as well, but the amps must have been set differently as could not hear the front line much, where we sat so Roy sounded quiet, but we still enjoyed them. It is a shame that we cannot sit in front of the band as the sound much better there, but we are lucky to have the Pavilion so must not grumble, who said I was!

A good crowd as I have mentioned …my moaning bit again…but lots of talking, we all chat but it does seem that the loud constant talkers seem to pick the soft music to do so!  of course some folk do not come to listen to the jazz and make it a social night, so must not grumble. But I was lucky enough for Jazz Janet doing the raffle so I got to listen a lot more to the music for both halves.

So once again thanks to the band for giving us another great night of music, and a fun raffle ! We are so lucky that we have live music every Thursday night for the price of the raffle, so remember to dig deep so we can keep the Thursday nights going…

Hope everyone who is 'under the weather 'soon feels better, thanks Heidi as always that lovely smile…Thanks JJ for doing the raffle… and Jan for taking us…and the June for the nibbles! great company.

Looking forward to seeing who will be entertaining us next week…

Fun Jazz Night…

Well that was rather different, what a great night of talent, well done to Alan for getting the line up together… and very well done to all in the band, as it was non stop fun and great music…

How very nice to have Simon and Tony singing duets, loved that as did the audience as one could tell by the applause…

What can I say it was so good from start to finish, each solo was spectacular, with such different age groups playing just shows how much talent was on show as they blended so well together…

Camera work not that good as I was jigging up and down to the beat, and Tony W looks a bit dark, whilst Simon and Bill posed!!!

But hope you can see they were enjoying the night, thanks to everyone.

A lot of new faces there, and some of the regulars missing, but it all made a great night…

Thanks Jazz Janet for helping with the raffle, and Heidi as always… all those folk and still a smile on your face, thank you… Thanks as always for the lift Jan…

Just have to say a big 'Get Well 'to all those under the weather get better soon…

Get cracking Alan you have a job to find another different line up for next week, thank you again as it is hard to get a good mix every time, you certainly did that last night…Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did…

Sun and Sea…

After being under the weather for a while now, yesterday lunch time Jan said shall we go and get some sea air, what an idea! How good was that.

She took us to Pakefield, had not been there for a while, parked up, then decided some Fish and Chips were in order! we had not been in the F&C shop for a couple of years, but what a change, we had some lovely Haddock cooked to perfection lovely crisp batter and great chips…

We took them to one of the many lovely seats facing the sea along the cliff path, and with the sun shining the sea breeze clearing our heads and the great amount of people that passed by, everyone spoke and we chatted… lots of dogs playing on the green. So good after being coped up for a time…

We went for a little walk, as I had not been walking much it was 'little' (sorry Jan) but we were reading the dedications on the seats, although very sad especially the young ones who have lost their lives on our roads, but how wonderful to have a place to go and sit looking over the sea, feeling that the loved ones have a great view…

I do not think my camera managed to pick up the wonderful sight of the sea sparkling but I tried…

Thanks Jan lets not be too long before we go again!

Jazz night…

What a wonderful evening of talent and fun at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham…

Great music and singing and some really terrific  solos…Thank you for giving us a memorable evening…

Lots of fun between the players which of course then penetrates to the audience.

There was so much going on… Ron's great solo it is so good to see how all the band members when one is doing a solo they watch and are proud to be there, Ray with his different take on some of the trumpet jazz and keeping it going well… Tony P who managed to sort of control the chatting bit while the rest made up their minds what to play, with great verve …so added to it all,. Tony J (Happy Birthday Tony) as always fingers making such yummy sounds… Alan on the Banjo/Guitar, and chief raffle shouter! and of course our great drummer Craig giving us some real wellie with those drumsticks…

Simon and Tony gave us the vocals, and I have to say Simon you sang us to a new place, you were great, loved the mix with you and Tony on the trombone…and the lovely songs came across well, and the finish everyone so enjoyed… the music was still going round in my head in the night!

Such a shame that people are inclined to 'chat' rather loud still and do spoil it for a lot of the true listening people, however we cannot have everything, sorry for those who's faces really showed how upset they were that the loud talk upset them… you know who you are… Thank goodness the band were enjoying their playing they hopefully did not take offence. We all chat but some talk loudly through some great jazz music…but it is their loss ! but of course there was a good crowd to support the band and I am sure everyone had a good time. I know I did after having to miss last week, and still, like a lot in the room, suffering from not being well.

Thanks to Jazz Janet who did the raffle again for me, hopefully I can give her a break next week. And I can get back to tormenting everyone…all in the aid of helping the band to play each week for us…

Heidi as always a smiling vision taking care of everyone…

So thanks to one and all, roll on next week…

Flixton Air Museum

Sunday was the Flixton Air Museum open day …with the big band playing and lots to see as always…Memories from the past makes one realise how lucky we are to remember them!

There was also a great fly past of the Spitfire which we just caught as we got to the Buck at Flixton…I just managed to get the camera out, but of course too late to get a good photo, but lovely to see it…and hear that engine noise…

We had a meal booked with the Coven crowd, thanks for including us…and also Tim for driving us 3 Witches…

We had a good meal for us 13 . well it is my lucky number! so thanks Phil and all your helpers very nice.

Did not get to take any photos of the band as could not get too near, but no swing dancers this year which was sad, never mind one couple did a dance which was nice to see.

Had a nice walk down through the nettles …well there is a nice wooden path! to the little bit of river, and the sun came out for us, lots of dragonflies but too fast for me to get on camera.

Dixie Mix at the Beccles Festival…

The Beccles Music Festival is taking place this weekend at the Waveney House Hotel…

We could not go to the jazz on Friday night, so Jan, JJ and me went to see Dixie Mix last night who are always entertaining, sad there were a lot of empty seats, however you would not have known it by the thunderous applause, because everyone there so enjoyed the lads giving their all…There was such a lot of shows on in the area this weekend, which is unusual, but bet we went to the best one!

What a treat, everyone a talented musician and they played their hearts out, it was very hot for them up there on the stage, but they coped well. The jackets had to come off though before I got my camera out,  they always look so smart, but as I said it was hot for them still the bright red looked good as well…

Tony the drummer was on holiday so a stand in Jake Lay… you must remember that name a young man of just 17 with a talent that will certainly take him far, he was brilliant, and good that such a great band as Dixie Mix have given him a chance to show his skills in this area …well done young Jake…

Of course those fans of the Mix know that they give a great entertaining night, and they served up a mix that had people on their feet so well done to you all, even got Simon on a red trumpet ha ha and Kevin on the banjo…Great night thanks to all…

A little look at the garden…

The weather is so strange this year, and the garden has bloomed at different times with primroses already out, and plants that should be blooming are not and those that should not be blooming are…

The birds…bees and butterflies must be finding as it confusing as we all are…!

But in the meantime it still looks like summer!

Oscar thinks it is great dozing among his cat mint in the sun yesterday…

Sole Bay Jazz Band and Guests…

Last night at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham…we had a lot of talent rolled into a great night of jazz music…

Not such a big crowd but they certainly appreciated the different line up and the very good jazz…

Some music we had not heard for a while so thank you band…

Simon came along and gave us some lovely vocals, shame a lot of noise when he was singing a quiet song, but we who did listen enjoyed it…

The lighting there does not like my camera but hope you can get an idea of who was playing…

Some great playing and singing and fun, everyone played so well, but have to say our drumming guest, wow that guy can play thanks Ron  …You fitted in so well…

Thanks as always to Heidi that smiling face is always a welcome…

Hope all those who are under the weather get better soon…
