Sole Bay Jazz Band…

The Sole Bay Jazz Band played last evening at The Sports Pavilion Ditchingham, with a rather nice amount of people to cheer the band on, lovely when we get a nice lot of chairs filled.

A slow start while the band decided what to play which would be the right key that everyone knew … and then it blossomed, some really great music had not heard some of the tunes for a while so a good different feel. Thanks.

Everyone played so well, pity Tim had a jinx on his saxophones, however the clarinet got a good outing…Ray tinkling on the keys… Trummy lots of notes from the trombone and the euphonium …Tony on the string bass …Alan on guitar…and Craig giving the drums a good work out… and again throwing the stick away…then Jenny decided she would sing a couple of numbers, well done Jenny we love to hear you again.

Thanks to Clover and Christine for doing the raffle and for the 'boys' who fold all those tickets. and of course you all for digging deep to support the band…Also thanks Emily for your happy face, and looking forward to seeing the outfit next week!!!

Next week  …Christmas Party Time …so Bah Humbug hats and lots of Christmas jumpers and food, each table bring their own although we and several other tables will have enough for those who we usually bring for. So hope to see a good crowd, Alan is planning a good line up to cheer everyone up.  Maybe we will see Simon Denny and family??????

There will be extra prizes in the raffle so thanks to all those people who have donated to this as well.

Another little gem is that Ron Hockett is out of hospital after his successful lung transplant. Ray will hopefully send me copies of letters he received have not been able to get them on here but will keep trying.

Lovely to see Robin gaining strength getting good at the beer drinking again, Lovely to see Fudge make you behave! hope all goes well at the hospital and it is good news.

A few photos and Fudge has some good ones on SBJ Face Book…and Duncan thanks for that not so great photo of Fudge and me taking pictures…naughty…

Just got this from Ray cannot get letter on yet but all is well.

Well done love and good luck for the further journey to good health xx

Christmas Festive Concert

Last evening Jan invited me to go with her and meet up with her Daughter, Husband and Grandson, to go to hear the Chorus of St Cecilia,  Festive Christmas Concert, as they know how I love the choir, made special nowadays although Elizabeth now does not sing in the choir but her hubby James and their Son Max do now sing, and it was Max's first concert so extra special.

Always such a joy to hear the choir and special because of Max, who did so well never seen him so still!

Mathew Hardy is the Musical Director …on the piano Christopher Whiting …drums Arthur Yan le baleur… Soloists Jo Westaway… gorgeous voice… Philip Pearson sounding better each time we hear him… and darling Max Pring who we have seen since he was really little and still only 11 with the most angelic voice, and the most adorable face so cheeky.

Great choir starting off with a Christmas Melody… and continuing with amazing Christmas songs… the junior choir makes the cheeks ache with the smiles one has to have on the face as they are so very delicious and in their red santa hats in some of the numbers, what a really good thing that with all the trouble some youngsters are blamed for nowadays, to see the youngsters fully committed to the choir, before half time the audience had a chance to sing with the choir Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer… and in  the second half O Holy Night …The Snowman and many more with the junior choir singing Little Donkey, Mary had a Baby, with Max Pring singing Pie Jesu, must admit to tears in my eyes with that one.

The choir finished off with Bethlehem …White Christmas …We Wish you a Merry Christmas, and the audience joined in with O Come All Ye Faithful…

So many thanks to the family for including me again, and for the wonderful choir members who put on great shows …Mathew Hardy …you did it again well done.

Sole Bay Jazz night…

I am not sure where to start this week on here, firstly will say a huge thank you to the wonderful Sole Bay Jazz  Band and the magical  evening of music and fun, it was just like the old days, lots of talented playing and so good to have Simon to sing for us again, all the band supplied us (who were there  still empty seats …you missed a good one)! with an evening to remember, not that they do not always play wonderful music but sometimes it is extra special.

Well done Gentlemen our back line is something every band would want and last night they played up a storm…Ray played some magic on the piano as well as giving us a chance to hear the trumpet again…Tim as always talented and last night really enjoying the night, Martin what a player next time sing for us???

One of the 3 things Tim had to say about some good news… that Martin had come along to play with the band again …come again soon please loved when Tim and you were playing together…Simon being able to come along and bring his voice to the evening, great duet with Ray for one of my favourite songs…and that Ron Hockett had got his new lung, so now we wish him well for it to all continue to improve his health (Ray is sending me the letter he received from Ron and family which I will put on here for those who did not read it last night).

But I will continue good news, as what a pleasure to see Sheila back sitting at the band table with Kim  and looking so well, with Simon …also Robin although still very sore he joined them, lovely to see him enjoying his beer! hope it helped the pain.

It is sometimes so sad to see the band table without the  folk  who used to be there, I know sometimes we have others that sit there, but last night was so nostalgic … we have lost a lot of great fans over the years, and I was remembering them last night as the band was playing as I am sure a lot of you were. They will always be with us in spirit that is for sure.

What a great crowd as well …thanks for digging deep for the raffle, and of course the boys for the ticket folding, Christine and Clover doing a great job, and lovely prizes as always.

Emily behind the bar, smiling as always…

I took a few photos camera does not like the lights …but Fudge has some on Face Book…as well as a couple of videos from Simon on there.

Thanks again to everyone for a great evening.

Sole Bay Jazz Band…

Well that was a very quiet night in many ways for The Sole Bay Jazz Band playing at The Sports Pavilion Ditchingham…

Would like to thank everyone who did come along to support the band, but the numbers were very much down, however a nice pleasant evening with good company and some rather nice music…

Lovely to hear Jenny sing again, it takes a lot of effort for her to say she will sing, but I do hope she loved the fact that we so very much love her, and appreciate her efforts, so thank you Jenny well done and do not leave it as long next time. Nice that Fudge got a nice photo on FB of her.

Also great was that Robin managed to come back to the jazz and how good it was to see him, all aches and pains, but that beer looked like it was worth waiting for…and some great giggles…

As Tim mentioned the 'bah humbug of Christmas' last night …thought I would put that the band will be playing the last of the year on the 20th December, so bring goodies if you would like to and  there will be an extra special raffle as well. Then next year the band will start on January 3rd.

Thanks to Clover and Christine for the raffle, lots of groans from those who did not pick up a prize but we like them to be good prizes …thanks go as always to the 'boys' who fold the tickets each week.

Lovely to see Emily with her lovely smile ( reminds me of Heidi) thanks for your help Em…

Hope those who look in on here and on Fudges Sole Bay Jazz post on Face Book… pass the word around, as it does take effort as well as talent to have live music played for us each week, and you know what they say 'if you do not use it you lose it', so please let's get back to the nights where we could not find a spare chair and support the fine musicians that come along every week for us .

A couple of photos…

Sole Bay Jazz Band evening

There was only five players and one singer plus a guest for a couple of numbers, however the Sole Bay Jazz Band played up a storm at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham last evening…

So good that the players were able to give us some great music and nice singing from Barry, plus Ray gave us a couple of numbers on drums, nice as he may come in handy when Craig is on overload with his day job.

Tim on Saxophone and Clarinet…love that Baritone he made lots of laughs with his comments as always, Derek bless him still going strong and blowing well at nearly 91 but still worry about him on that stool! Craig as always those Drums were going well and Tony good to have him back on his Bass, did you doze Tony? Alan on Guitar and Banjo letting it all flow! Our man in black with a hat which makes it hard to photograph with those lights!

So a good night.

Sorry to see so few people there such a shame as live music is the only way to go and without the crowd we could lose it, so come along and enjoy a good evening of live music please let's keep this going, after 7 years at Ditchingham we need the fans to come along.

Good raffle thanks Clover and Christine and to the 'boys' for all the ticket folding.

Thanks Kim for the smiles behind the bar and for helping with the change.

"I would like to add on here  a message from Tim …that one of our great players Tony Parsons who had been recovering well has had a set back, so we all wish him the best of health and come back soon. As many of you know Tony plans gigs at The Angel in Halesworth once a month, and they would like to carry on there, so at the moment the next dates will be Sunday lunch time the 25th November and the 30th December, hope a nice lot of jazz fans will go along to keep this going. We do need live music…"

Sole Bay Jazz Band happy evening…

Cannot believe it was the 7th Anniversary that the Sole Bay Jazz Band has been playing at The Sports Pavilion Ditchingham, so much has happened since we have been there, so first I want to say a huge big thank you to all the members and guests who have come along every week to play such talented Jazz for us all.

We have lost a lot of our lovely folk who have followed the Sole Bay Band for many years, but we do not stop thinking about them when we sit listening to the band.

Also the fact that the raffle plus what  Jon gives us from the bar has ensured we have a good line up each week, thanks Alan for always finding the line ups, so a big thank you for all those who give generously every week.
When years ago  at the Buck Keith asked me to start the raffle to keep the band going I did not think it would bring such good results how much you have all helped, then since Christine and Clover took the raffle over you have continued to give and give …so thank you all from me and the Band.

Thanks to June and Les who had a nice full table full of food this week, when we started in 2011 we did do a lot of food for everyone , but now it is better that each table brings food if they want it, the coven table always manages that  as well, and Jon is happy for people to do it.

A good night last night of jazz and a few vocals from Barry which were great… so thanks to all the band.

Thanks to Clover and Christine for the good raffle lovely prizes as always, as well the 'Boys' were back to fold the tickets this week again.
Kim doing a fine job behind the bar, thanks for your help with the change.

Fudge has given me permission to tell you how our Marathon man Robin is …as last night he was hit by a car whilst out running with the Black Dog runners,  so we are all upset about that, he has a small skull fracture. broken collar bone and broken leg, so I am sure you will all be with me to wish him a quick recovery and soon come back to listen to the jazz with us all. Get well soon Robin, and love to your wife who must be worrying.

A couple of photos Fudge has some good ones on FB as well. and a good one of Tony looking up from his double bass! I was too slow to catch that!

Sole Bay Jazz fun night…

Yet another great night at The Sports Pavilion…Ditchingham with The Sole Bay Jazz Band Five plus one singer simply was fab-u-lous as Craig Revel Horwood would say…those who do not watch Strictly will not know what I am saying ha ha)

It just gelled right from the start, and as the coven table had all their Halloween gear on it made a good fun night of live music, and the laughs between the band were great, so the audience appreciated it as well, the night went so quickly.

Tim…Bill…Alan …Craig…Tony (back again looking so much better) plus our Barry the man in the hat was back and with good mikes he sounded great.

Thanks to Clover and Christine the raffle once again was good and thank you all for digging deep there was a good crowd even though still lots of empty seats.

Tim told the crowd how much everyone had contributed to Ron from the benefit last week and everyone seemed pleased that we could all have helped, I did have some more donations, some from people who were not there the week before and more from Tony's DVD's so another thank you to him.  plus £100 from the coven table and friends to go to Ron from Annie a dear friend who loved the jazz  who passed away  a few weeks ago …instead of flowers for her the family wanted the money to go to Ron, so many thanks for that lovely thought.

Thanks to Kim behind the bar this week…A little word from Emily she is having a great time in Australia.

Hope all those who were unwell will soon recover and get back to the jazz.

A few photos could not resist the black and white one…nice and moody…

October sunshine…

While the dust was showing up on the furniture indoors in the lovely sunshine coming through the windows …  Jan rang and we decided it would be a shame to waste that lovely air! so off we went…

The river side is a lovely walk and always beckons on such a nice day, we were amazed at the amount of people taking advantage of it as well, lots of cruisers still up and down the water lots of waving and helloing (is that a word) to everyone, how lucky are we that this is just down the other side of town…and yes the river looked that blue most of the walk…

The swans were  running on the water and then sliding amazing to watch …The Waveney Stardust Cruiser was still taking folk up the river… Dogs swimming happily…young girl in her canoe…lovely trees…

Thanks Jan great walk, did us the world of good… feet up time now! ha ha
