New Years Eve…

It hardly seems possible that a whole year has simply flown by 2012 will soon be 2013…

I have been thinking back of all the things that have happened on the blog…my diary this year has been about a lot of Jazz more than Cakes and Alistair. But the stat counter says lots of folk have looked in, so have not been talking to just myself!

Lots of Good…Bad…Sad…Happy things have been and gone, so tonight we wish for the New Year to be  Healthy and Happy … Keeping up with Good Friends and Family…

I will be remembering all the past New Years, spent with lots of Joy and Fun… nowadays spent in front of the TV alone instead of out and about…well not quite alone because I have my lovely Cat…lots of Memories… and looking forward to spending the coming year with Family and Friends…

May it be a very Happy New Year for all of my readers of the Blog…

Enjoy… and make lots of lovely memories for the future…

FESTIVE DELIGHT…

Just when I think the Sole Bay cannot give us yet another great night, they pull out all the strings and we end up with another marvelous evening of such talent that it is hard to describe.

I do hope I can get the little video on later as I am rather pleased with it and then those of you who could not attend may get a bit of the magic.

Ron,Tony.Craig,Tim,Alan,Dick…
It was such a lovely friendly place to be last night, and I thank you all Gentlemen for giving those who did manage to get to the Pavilion a Joyful, Happy and Pleasurable evening of entertainment, that anywhere else we would have had to pay highly for, you were much appreciated as no doubt the applause told you.

Sorry this is not clear but I took it from the other side of the room, as had never heard this talented man sing before what a joy thank you Ron…

Looking forward to the New Year when the Sole Bay will be back to entertain us.

I will have a try at downloading the video now so watch this space.

It's Christmas Day…

I wish all who follow the blog a very Happy Christmas Day…

So much is going on in the world, but we should stop and remember what Christmas is all about, so some time today just stop and think of all those who have nothing …no home… in ill health… alone…and give thanks… and for those who believe… a prayer that things will improve…for however we may feel there is always someone who is worse off than we are…but for those who have family and friends and a houseful of food… Have a wonderful merry Christmas…

I love Alistair's song title so will borrow it…
"I WISH FOR YOU THE WORLD"

More Sole Bay Jazz Magic…

Just had to do a little report before I go shopping …on last nights Christmas gig at the Pavilion…

Thank you Sole Bay for another great night of talented music and fun, and for the singing from Tony…Jenny and Roy.

Pleased you did do a Christmas number, helped to get everybody in the Christmas mood.

What a good line up the sound was really melodic,  each week  different, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did. We are so lucky to have such talent so close to home, and for free.

What a great crowd, we will all have to start bringing our own chairs (as some do)! a lot of different faces last night as well as your loyal fans. What a great little family of fans that follow the Jazz I know the band love to see you each week. Thank you to all that look in on here to see what is going on with the Band, even though not many comments on my blog the stat report tells me many people do find it useful…

So thank you everyone,  Heidi so good to see you back, you do such a great job, hope you were not to tired,  Jon and Marilyn hope we did not leave to much mess!

I wish you all a very Merry, Peaceful and Healthy Christmas.

Do not forget the Sole Bay Gentlemen will be playing again on the 27th December, so we will not miss our Jazz fix!

CHRISTMAS PARTY

I expect a lot of folk are out enjoying Christmas parties, well those who can try and forget the many people who are not going to be lucky enough to enjoy them…

I was one of the lucky ones last night…

So firstly thank you Rosemary for a fantastic party, in your lovely place with the log fires and great food…great company, and a live jazz band wow…oh and your lovely dog and cat!

I cannot remember a party like that for many a year, everything went well and sorry you were left with some washing up, but you can be assured I am writing this knowing everyone there will be thinking the same…IT WAS GREAT…Take a bow.

I do say it every week at our jazz venue how lucky am I, to have such good friends as the 'Coven' and jazz friends, you have changed my life all of you.

So hope to see all of you again tonight, hope not too many hangovers! Thanks for the lift Catherine it was nice to spend some time with you. I am sorry the camera battery ran out, (on charge now ready for tonight) would have loved to video some of the night, but think I will remember it for a long time.

So sorry you missed the party Marian take care of that broken arm , hope John is looking after you, and Michael hope you soon feel better get those anti biotics, in fact everyone seems to have some sort of aches and pains colds etc, so I hope everyone soon gets better and that includes my dodgy back!

Thank you again Rosemary much appreciated …"It is beginning to feel a bit like Christmas" as the song says.

If you look hard you may be able to recognize these two!
I did a couple of videos, but as I was sitting on Neil's knee for one of them, and he kept moving to the music it is to jumpy to put on but I am having fun watching it, you are welcome to see that and the one of Jenny singing, but you will have to come here to watch it. Sorry…

A little taste of last evenings jazz…

Whoops… rather a wobbly video and should have sat more in line with speakers, but hope you can manage to see it without feeling sea sick!

Maybe should have done a more upbeat tune as they played plenty of those…will try another time to do a better job…

Magnificent Seven!

 I repeat …THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN…
*******
Yes and they certainly were… The Sole Bay Gentlemen are always good, but the line up for last night was a gold star winner…

Thank you , what a great night of live… happy…talented music, from you all, and also thanks to Roy who even with a sore throat managed to sing us a couple of good vocals…

I have hopefully got a video to download later so fingers crossed those who could not make it last night can hear what you missed… cruel aren't I…

The front line of three saxophones and clarinets in harmony… the piano melodic as always, the strings and drums well it was just a joy to hear, I would like to have done a video of it all, we could have raised a lot of money on the sales!
The line up of Tony, Ron, Craig, Tim, Alan, Derek, Ray…
Thank you Jan for deciding to come and take me I know you enjoyed it and you will come again…

It was a terrible night of weather, yet amazingly so many fans turned out, hope the drive home was not too bad for you all, very wet! Better than this morning though snowing here…

We have such friendly  people… who come and support the band, and I know they like me to thank you all…

I say it so much, but once again, How lucky are we to have this talent on our doorstop, we would have to pay a lot to hear such great music …and we get it for free…

Thank you Jon for being so cheerful behind that bar, we all missed Heidi, but you did a grand job…

Glad you decided to let us use your facility what a lucky break for us all, and hope you are beginning to love the jazz…

Had a little laugh when wandering around last evening,
as a lot of crisps were being eaten, obviously missing our food!

I hope all who were feeling unwell feel better today…

I know how much the Band like me to say how pleased they are to see so much support each week.

Well a very happy evening spent at The Pavilion, Dtichingham to celebrate a year that the the Sole Bay Jazz Gentlemen and friends have played there.

I want to thank them for another great night of live music, (sorry I said it was loud at the start) and of course all the wonderful fans that every week come and support them, it cannot be said enough how lucky we are to have such talent so close to home.

I also want to give a huge thank you to all my dear friends who helped me last night with the buffet, for the lovely food, I hope everyone had enough to eat, it certainly went down well, and no waste so thanks to everyone.

Thank you Jon for having us all and Heidi what a great job you do …

Happy Birthday David

When this photo was taken children were dressed like children, now it is jeans and dark colours, they are made to grow up so quickly nowadays.

So Happy Birthday Son, but remember when you say how old you are I am 21 years older!

Jan and Liz who does the smile and attitude remind you of?

SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND…

This Thursday the 15th November at the Pavilion, Ditchingham The Sole Bay celebrates a birthday!

It is a year since the Band started playing at the 'new venue', for which I know they would want me to thank everyone for all the support you have given them.

No one knew whether the venue would work out …after all they played at the Tally Ho for nearly 25 years until it closed, then a couple of years at another public house, so a change to a Sports Club was very different, but Jon, Marilyn and Heidi welcomed them and us fans, and have continued to make it a very pleasant place to go and listen to some wonderful live jazz music.

As it happened the big space has proven to be so much more easier for everyone to be together to listen, I must admit the regular fans seem to have found their own space, and it has been great to find there is room for lots of new fans who now attend, in fact we sometimes laugh that we need more space, however it is very cosy even when full, and it has been known that some have brought their own garden chairs! and a folding table… how good is that…

This week we have a line up of…

Tim Densham…Clarinet/Saxophone…Dick Mayhew…Trombone…

Allan Bradley…Trumpet…Ray Simmons…Piano… Tony Jullings…String Bass…

Alan Cugnoni…Banjo/Guitar…Craig Hipperson…Drums…

But we are sure there will be some great players to add to these fine musicians, and some singers…

There will be some "nibbles" available  thank you for the folk who have agreed to help provide these.

So do come along and enjoy an evening of great live music with such wonderful friends and forget your cares and worries for a few hours …

We say it all the time we are so lucky to have such fine musicians so close to home.

8pm-10.30pm

Remembrance Sunday

My heart goes out to all those people who have lost someone to war, or been  injured in conflict, especially those who's loved ones are still fighting.

I take my hat off to the people who produced the lovely service last night a great lot of love was put into it, lots of light and shade …and this morning will be another service to remember all that has been lost, and pray for a happier peaceful future.

Especially sad this weekend because of personal loss, and hearing also that another young person has passed away I send my prayers to you and your family Dave.

Let us enjoy everyday we have and love one another, hate and war are terrible.

At the same time I am so grateful that I have such great family and friends, and my jazz friends especially, thank you to all who have sent me messages, I feel like everyone has put their arms around me and I thank you for that.

Good news has come along with the sad, and for that I have faith that all will be well.

So one day at a time we go forward with happier times, I will put the line up for the jazz when Alan sends it but it may be that a lot of musicians will pop in to cheer us.

Enjoy the day…

movie… Cool Blue…

Well maybe movie not sure if I have done it correctly will have to post it and then edit here goes…
 ***
Looks like it was not too bad, the background noise seems to be the brushes on the drums, and of course June and I moaning about the light and the people walking past.

The one with Lin which is a gorgeous sound and Barry singing I had far too many wobbles on… not sure if I can just put sound on will try at a later date after consulting Son!

Apologies to my Son who had written everything down for me to follow and for not using the gorilla stand so lots of wobbles, and I could not do the titles need another lesson!

But for the size of my dear little camera I am quite pleased with the sound, hope you can enjoy.

COOL COOL BLUE………

Sunday Jazz at the Butcher's Arms Public House this weekend was just GREAT…

Ian the landlord had a nice log fire blazing, although someone kept standing in front of it!! but a lovely crowd of fans there, and the weather was terrible, but so many people took on the weather and enjoyed a really good lunchtime of music and meeting of good friends.

June said how lucky are we, and oh yes we certainly are, to have so much talent in this small rural area, and long may it last.

This week the line up being
Lin with her Saxophone…Mick… Bass Guitar…Simon…Vocals… …Craig …Drums…
Barry Piano and Vocals…Later Ray came along and joined in to play  his Trumpet…

So it all added up to a very polished group of players…

I only took a few photos as light is bad there, however June and I did some videos, but so far I seem to have put my finger over the sound button,  when the housework is done today will try it out on the Mac and see what I can make out.

Thank you Cool Blue I hope you were  happy to hear the reaction as you played and sang so well, what a great way to spend a wet Sunday afternoon…

Lin.Simon.Craig.Barry. Mick was there!
Dave took over the drums for a while Barry great vocals…
Ray turned up and gave us some numbers…

Another great night of jazz from the Sole Bay Jazz Gentlemen, plus friends…

A great crowd that came to support them for which they are very grateful, it makes it so much more pleasure for them when the fans show appreciation.

Simon some great vocals…
A nice solo from Tim, one of my favourites…Tony on the string bass even feeling unwell you still make a lovely sound…and Craig,

Photos not that great and everyone was smiling a lot more than photos show!

Great to see the dancing, and every one having a sing song as well, but Romping Roy usually manages to get people going when he sings.

You all played well,  thank you Peter you are such a good guitar player, lovely solos,  I am rather partial to guitar playing as you know and since the age of about 9 and 11 my Sons have played in several bands over the  years and we have enjoyed many good nights out listening to them.

"HOT" Cool Blue!

Cool Blue had a good line up at the Butchers Arms on Sunday and they performed so well to a very happy  audience… The photos are not good but will post a couple, I sat rather far back in a nice cosy place that I could not move out of very well, oh dear that sounds like a poor excuse…

Here they are …pity you cannot hear them those who did not go…

Barry B and Mick…
Tried another mirror one! rubbish but I tried…

The sound was very good and some great vocals from Simon and Barry L.

Also you all know how I love the guitar and Mick plays a real mean one , very good Mick loved it…

But loved it all Lin is a wiz on her Sax… Simon and her always look like they enjoy singing together … and this week with Barry B on his Sax they blended so well…
Tony as always so great on his string bass…Craig on the drums with an ear bashing solo which everyone had been asking for…

Barry you get better and better with each hearing great playing and vocals…

Mike F joined in the last few numbers on his clarinet as well.

Lovely to meet up with good friends so thank you Cool Blue it was great…

Southwold day out!

Today was very different from my usual shopping on a Friday morning, after a great night of Jazz  Tim thought a good walk was in order…

I have had a great day …interesting so hope some of the photos give a hint of a very nice walk…
Of course the Southwold Huts
From the pier…
Skies…
John Barber the town cryer…
Not old but cute…
The Harbour…
This one is for you June…
These next two are 'Dusso' and John…
Who several jazz folk will know…
What a lovely long walk from the common to the pier and back into town, great company, a wonderful yummy lunch and a walk by the harbour, ending up at the museum and it was open so a good look round there, then back along the harbour…

Thanks Tim for a great day out really loved it, so glad you had the idea, good to think of me…hope you enjoyed it as much as me, and also thank you for our lovely lunch and all the information about Southwold I did not know.
