Flixton Air Museum

Sunday was the Flixton Air Museum open day …with the big band playing and lots to see as always…Memories from the past makes one realise how lucky we are to remember them!

There was also a great fly past of the Spitfire which we just caught as we got to the Buck at Flixton…I just managed to get the camera out, but of course too late to get a good photo, but lovely to see it…and hear that engine noise…

We had a meal booked with the Coven crowd, thanks for including us…and also Tim for driving us 3 Witches…

We had a good meal for us 13 . well it is my lucky number! so thanks Phil and all your helpers very nice.

Did not get to take any photos of the band as could not get too near, but no swing dancers this year which was sad, never mind one couple did a dance which was nice to see.

Had a nice walk down through the nettles …well there is a nice wooden path! to the little bit of river, and the sun came out for us, lots of dragonflies but too fast for me to get on camera.

Came back to the band and had a naffi type mug of tea, very nice…

Then a walk through all the lovely memorabilia that they have there, well done to everyone for keeping all the past things so well.

Thanks to everyone for a good day…

the Spitfire ha ha just caught it on the last run as we arrived…

this is on an old post of mine but could not resist it…

watching the dragonflies…

Dixie Mix at the Beccles Festival…

The Beccles Music Festival is taking place this weekend at the Waveney House Hotel…

We could not go to the jazz on Friday night, so Jan, JJ and me went to see Dixie Mix last night who are always entertaining, sad there were a lot of empty seats, however you would not have known it by the thunderous applause, because everyone there so enjoyed the lads giving their all…There was such a lot of shows on in the area this weekend, which is unusual, but bet we went to the best one!

What a treat, everyone a talented musician and they played their hearts out, it was very hot for them up there on the stage, but they coped well. The jackets had to come off though before I got my camera out,  they always look so smart, but as I said it was hot for them still the bright red looked good as well…

Tony the drummer was on holiday so a stand in Jake Lay… you must remember that name a young man of just 17 with a talent that will certainly take him far, he was brilliant, and good that such a great band as Dixie Mix have given him a chance to show his skills in this area …well done young Jake…

Of course those fans of the Mix know that they give a great entertaining night, and they served up a mix that had people on their feet so well done to you all, even got Simon on a red trumpet ha ha and Kevin on the banjo…Great night thanks to all…

A little look at the garden…

The weather is so strange this year, and the garden has bloomed at different times with primroses already out, and plants that should be blooming are not and those that should not be blooming are…

The birds…bees and butterflies must be finding as it confusing as we all are…!

But in the meantime it still looks like summer!

Oscar thinks it is great dozing among his cat mint in the sun yesterday…

Sole Bay Jazz Band and Guests…

Last night at the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham…we had a lot of talent rolled into a great night of jazz music…

Not such a big crowd but they certainly appreciated the different line up and the very good jazz…

Some music we had not heard for a while so thank you band…

Simon came along and gave us some lovely vocals, shame a lot of noise when he was singing a quiet song, but we who did listen enjoyed it…

The lighting there does not like my camera but hope you can get an idea of who was playing…

Some great playing and singing and fun, everyone played so well, but have to say our drumming guest, wow that guy can play thanks Ron  …You fitted in so well…

Thanks as always to Heidi that smiling face is always a welcome…

Garden again…

Just thought I would post some flowers that are out at the moment, to brighten up the day…Jazz Janet gave me the Fucshia when it was tiny and it is now beautiful…

These Begonias have been flowering all summer long…

Sole Bay Jazz night…

Another great night of live music with some laughs…At the Sports Pavilion Ditchingham…

Managed to grab a couple of photos…
Could not get them all in…need a wide angle lens when they are spread out across the floor…Nice bright shirts though!

Whoops microphone in front of Ray…

Some really good playing, with some melodies we have not heard for a while…Tim in fine form with his information about the music…

Vocals from Tony P and Simon D who sang well… 2 different styles of singers which was good……we also had a harmonica player to join in with 'Georgia' thank you…

Drumming good with no stick throwing! always gets a good cheer Craig…

Ray is so good on that piano… as were all the band, a good night…

Good crowd ( and a noisy one ha ha…next week we should get more tables up the front so people can listen while those who want to chat can do so at the back, well we all chat, but some not as loud)!
It is a social club but it is a jazz night, maybe we should have social night with some background music one of these days so we can all catch up with each other…Yes I know I am moaning as people have to put up with me chatting whilst getting the raffle money in, but some people like to hold onto their pennies and I have to talk them into handing the £'s over…but it is my blog so there!!!But I do love you all as you know…some regulars missing so no garden chairs needed! However some more new faces found the live music, hope they enjoyed it…

Thanks as always to Heidi… lovely smile …Thanks to the Band for giving us another Thursday night  of live music to our ears…Hope to see you all next week…

Southwold…

Today… the two Jan's and me went for a trip out, thanks Jan for driving…

We all love Southwold,  but today we did not go to the pier as we do usually…we took a different walk down to the Harbour…

We had a lovely lunch in a little cafe I had not noticed before, but the food we can recommend.

This was so tasty …A starter which was very filling…
so we each had some…then fresh crab sandwiches with salad and a great dressing yummy…

We could not have chosen a better day for weather…

Swans and cygnets in green water…

A field of cows and bullocks we walked through…

These two found some blackberries!

And these two lovely ladies walked, as I did with them for a lot of miles…

Thanks girls I had a lovely time we should sleep tonight with all that fresh sea air…
When are we going again?

Sole Bay Jazz Band…Thursday 11th September…

Another good line up from the Sole Bay Jazz Band this week at the
Sports Pavilion… Ditchingham.

Tim Densham…Clarinet/Saxophone…

Derek Cubitt…Clarinet/Saxophone…

Tony Parsons…Trombone/Vocals…

Ray Simmons…Piano…

Craig Hipperson…Drums…

Alan Cugnoni …Guitar/Banjo…

And of course Tony Jullings on String Bass…

How could I forget him thanks Keith for checking…

I know I say it a lot but we are so lucky to have live music every week at a venue so close to home for so many of us.

There is no entrance fee but as the regulars know we do sell raffle tickets with a small amount of prizes ( and a giggle or two)… for which we like you to dig deep…which of course helps to encourage even more musicians to the list…and helps with petrol money for those who travel far to play for us…they come along to entertain us each week, and we have such lovely friendly crowds attending, so a good night out.

Of course we get so many nowadays, but a lot of the regulars bring their own chairs which helps, as we have out done the amount of chairs available… but a fun evening with a good bar, so if you like good jazz do come and join us…

8pm-10.30pm…

Today the 7th September in the grounds of 'The Goat' at Skeyton, the Norfolk Dixieland Jazz Band gave a great lunch time of music to a large crowd …The sun was shining that was a nice bonus…

I did not get a chance to take any photos today, but the lads looked good as they do in their Blue Yellow and Black… you will have to look at earlier posts to see them!

Vic…on the Drums…John on the Cornet…Tim Saxophone and Clarinet…The other Vic on Bass…Bill …with his faithful Trombone…Peter… Guitar and Banjo…I love guitar as you know…Vocals from Peter and John provided a good mix of talent for us all.

Sole Bay Jazz and Guests …

I really do not know where to start with a report on the Sole Bay playing last night at the Sports Pavilion…without putting all really fabulous words about what a great night it was…

So with guests Ron and Ray Simmons joining Tim …Craig…Tony…Alan…we were treated to a magical evening of live music… Tim had a programme sorted, so it all went from one good tune to another, lots of different tunes from what we have heard for a while…how well they all played, it sounded like  a well rehearsed  show, it is so wonderful to know that a few people can get together on a Thursday evening, and provide us with such musical talent. The music was still going round in my head for a long time as I am sure it was to those who were playing…

A big thank you to you all…Craig those drumsticks are not only magic they fly on their own!!! Tony on Bass those fingers working well… Alan back with us again on guitar and banjo, (your face Alan when I said I could not get on my blog to write up a report because my new hub had wiped my web out, you will be pleased to see that a new hub has arrived, and I have managed to set it all up and working well…so here we are)…
Ray on the piano with fingers flying along those keys… and what can I say about Ron and Tim playing their hearts out and sounding so good both on their own and together…A real pleasure gentlemen thank you…

Simon came to sing a few songs, and Roy did a couple of numbers the second half…

Thanks Heidi for providing the hard work behind the bar, and what  a busy night it was, more new faces there, and lots of us regulars, so happy to see that most of the regulars bring their own chairs, pity they are so low to sit on, but better than standing, it seems that the word gets around that for the price of a raffle ticket ( the more you pay the more different guests can be invited to play , well and of course the joy of trying to win the top prize!!) ) One  can be in a friendly place and listen to music that would cost a lot of money for tickets anywhere else…

I wish I had time to get the camera out, would loved to have done a video, but of course enjoyed the music so much forgot  to get the camera out!

So hope to see you all next week…
