Thanks to Neil again!
Neil kindly took some great photos on Thursday , Sole Bay Jazz Night, and will include a few here, thanks Neil and Janet and girls for helping out feels more than 3 weeks I have missed.
Neil had this to say…
"it was a good night and we all agreed Lord Arsenal (horn) was on good form, and together with the presence of Bill Skinner (reeds) and Bill Brewer (trombone) the whole band was fairly motoring, the solid rhythm being delivered by Tony Jullings (d.bass), Alan Cugnoni (banjo/guitar) and Craig Hipperson (drums). Special thanks to Janet and the other ladies who stood in for Beryl dealing with the raffle"
Nice one Neil…Glad everyone enjoyed the evening… see you all soon …

And Now A Word From Neil …
"In Beryl's enforced absence she has asked me to say a few words about the proceedings on Thursday the 14th February, at the Pavilion, Ditchingham. I'll have a go Beryl, but it won't compare to your own chatty & easy style.
Roy Symonds (who practically everybody knows in the jazz halls of North-East Anglia) gathered together a band to 'sub' for the Sole Bay Band, who had other commitments. They played a program of music which was a nice mix of laid back and romantic jazz to suit the Valentine's theme, also with a few additional unusual numbers. The line-up was as trailed previously, and the guys did a really good job for a select audience of around sixty people.
In recognition of Valentine's Evening, a nice touch was added by several of the regular ladies who decorated the tables with small pot-plants and lighting, also a few bowls of nibbles thrown in for good measure. One can only hope the peanuts-and-crisps crunching noises didn't detract from the romantic sounds emanating from the band! Another worrying moment occurred when Roy offered a free kiss to the ladies as an additional raffle prize. A stampede was expected in case tickets became sold out. In the event I do believe a few tickets were actually sold. Sorry Roy, just kidding (or maybe it's just 'sour grapes')
Finally an apology for no photos (again). I have got out of the habit of carrying my camera around."
Thanks, Neil.
David here, Beryl's eldest.
Mum's home from hospital now and moaning like hell but you'll be pleased to know she's on the mend. She can't wait to get back to jazz on a Thursday.
Actually, right now she's sitting on the sofa eating cream doughnuts and mardling with Aunt Phyllis and Cousin Claire, so she's definitely feeling better this morning.
Pip pip!

Thursday's gig!
As I was unable to go this week, dear Neil has sent me a summary, thanks Neil and a nice photo of some jazz folk which I think is great.
"He says the music was top notch, and it as great to see Mike Leigh in action again, dropping into the familiar role of front man where he took charge of the proceedings in his practised manner and blowing up a storm, plus singing. It was clear he enjoyed himself immensly, together with former incomparable front liners from his Brandeston Band days, Bill Skinner and Dick (Trummy), Mayhew.
As always with the Sole Bay Band, there was a super rhythm section at the back - Tony Jullings,Craig Hipperson and Alan Cugnoni. not forgetting Ray Simmons who expertly slips between rhythm and solo features on keys.
Heidi did a great job behind the bar again, someone also performed an essential service - well done Janet for stepping in at short notice on the draw ticket sales.
Pity no photos this week of the band. However just for old times sake here is a photo of the Brandeston Band from September 2006.
Next week the Sole Bay have other commitments so Roy Symonds (Romping Roy to some) will be entertaining with his band the final line up has not been decided yet."
Wow that is a good write up so thanks a lot Neil much appreciated. I missed you all.

Sunday with Cool Blue…
Another great afternoon of swing/jazz/blues …from Cool Blue at the Butchers Arms Public House yesterday.
The music and the singing, mixed with a good crowd, (I did mention to go early) provided us all with an uplifting musical time…
Photos are not good up there for my little camera but as you can see only the five of them but what a great sound.
I think you can all be assured of how much the audience appreciated you , and the trio of singing …with another great drum solo just made it even more pleasurable …
Must mention Dave as well who gave us some numbers on the drums while Craig had a break
Thanks to everyone, so good to meet up with friends, and Ian you and the staff did good…
glad you enjoy the music!

Sole Bay and Friends…
I am once again going to say how lucky we are to have such a great venue locally that hosts the Thursday Sole Bay Jazz Band.
How talented the musicians are, and Alan I think you did a great job to get last nights line up that provided us with yet another great evening.
Thanks to all the people who turned up to support as well …what a great crowd, (sorry that a couple of men decided to talk through a lot of the music, I did try to ask them to be quiet, but they ignored me, so if they look in on here and they will know who they are, I hope they will sit at the back in the future!!! Spoils it for all the others,) but hey ho it is a free gig, but as this is my blog you have to put up with my opinion! Sorry…
Better say sorry the photos are not as good, was to busy listening
The night of music with these fabulous folk was again so different, Where do I start …Lovely to see and hear Simon again …you were a great host Simon thank you, the duet with Tony P and Simon, the wonderful voice of Graham (art deco) the piano of Ray, the string bass of Tony J. Derek as always playing like a young one…Alan with this banjo / guitar… and our Craig who makes those drums talk… great… Peter sat in for a couple of numbers on the drums as well.
Well if I may say WOW I will… I think gentlemen that your audience went home with ears full of great jazz and lots of fun, so a big THANK YOU from us all…
Oh I must say a huge thank you to Heidi, and Jon, Heidi as always such a pleasure for us all that you are there …take care of that lovely bump…
